Last Tuesday my husband was at work and we saw that severe weather was approaching. He was not sure if he would make it home in time, so the kids and I took a "practice run" to our storm shelter. Our shelter is located a small run from our home, but it the safest place to be if a tornado warning were to be issued. Since I have two small babies that do not walk, I was thinking "How am I going to get to the shelter with both babies and STILL be able to open the door?" So we came up with a plan!
Safety Plan:
I put on my Moby Wrap. I was going to wear it until the weather passed. This way, if a tornado warning was issued, I would be able to place my smallest baby in the Moby Wrap, carry my 15 month in one arm, my 4 year old was instructed to hold on to my belt loop and follow right behind me. I would then have one arm available, thanks to my Moby Wrap, to open the shelter door. My daughter would go in followed by myself and two babies. We did a practice run and it was actually surprisingly easy!
That evening, right after my husband got home, a tornado warning was issued. I still had my Moby on and was able to take my small baby to the shelter. She was comfortable and actually slept through the whole ordeal! We did have a tornado that touched down in the pasture across the street from our home. Fortunately, we did not sustain any damage, but I was really relieved to know that I had a product available that made such a stressful event seem so much more bearable. I really do think this is a product that any family in severe weather areas should have on hand in case such an event were to occur. Even if you aren't a baby-wearing momma, I would STRONGLY suggest having one for those unexpected moments.
You can also check out the Moby Wrap Facebook page for more storm stories. I posted mine to their wall and shortly there after more mommas were telling how they too had used their Moby Wrap for severe weather!
