Bad Hair Day? I've been there!
As a mom to three children I find myself in a constant state of "saving". I need to save for college, save for retirement, save for new school clothes, and the list is endless. No matter how much money you have it always seems like you need more. Therefore, I am always on a hunt for ways to cut back. I have found lots of great ways to cut back on my spending without cutting back on quality, but there have been times I have just wanted to slap myself.
For example, I was getting ready for a child's birthday party and wanted to look decent. Any woman knows that haircuts, color, highlight, and styling can be expensive. Take a trip to the hair salon and you may pass out from the price list. I have very long, thick hair that is unfortunately starting to get a little...ummmm....gray in spots. I am only 27 but that hasn't stopped Mother Nature from giving me a few visual signs of wisdom.
There is something to be said for the gray hair and wisdom, but since I am only 27 and do not have all the wisdom yet I feel I should dye those puppies. Dying hair is outrageous, so I opted for the "thrifty" dye job. Now some of you can probably dye your own hair with ease, but like I said before, I have a LOT of hair. There is practically no way to match color so I have to dye the whole thing. Three boxes of cheap dye later I was well on my way to gray free hair.
Unfortunately for me (and everyone that would have to witness the horrendous site which was my hair), it did not turn out as planned. A mismatched patchwork of color erupted on my head. I was out three boxes of at-home hair dye and another $125 to "fix" the poor dye job. This was a lesson learned. I am now going to keep what Mother Nature gave me or leave the hair dye to the professionals.
You would think we would have learned that all hair styling in our home should be done at the salon, but no. My little boy started getting some uneven hair growth and instead of taking him to the barber shop to get a trim my husband and I thought "we can do this". We got some scissors and started cutting. About 20 minutes later we realized it was still uneven, we had to keep chopping and chopping until his poor little hair was pretty short. At this point we just gave up and he looked like a hedgehog of some sort from behind. We could have saved the torment had we just forked over the $10 for a kid's haircut.
Whether it be from a frugal purchasing mistake like my own, or just the trials of everyday parenting sometimes as a mom you just need a break. A time to kick back and relax and just have some quiet time to yourself. Unfortunately for some moms the most "quiet time" they get is in the bathroom and that isn't even always a sacred place. I can't count the number of times I was barged in on in the bathroom. Clorox understands that the bathroom is under-appreciated. It can be a safe haven for a near breakdown level mom and a place to go to take care of business. Clorox is trying to bring some humor to the bathroom with The Clorox Lounge. Funny woman Sherri Shepherd is hosting the event and you will find lots of great fun, laughter, and even some coupons so be sure to check it out.
The Clorox Lounge activities kick-off with the Last Comic Sitting Competition and Sweepstakes. You have an opportunity to win $10,000 in the Last Comic Sitting Sweepstakes. Simply visit The Clorox Lounge to sign-up and be automatically entered for a chance to win the top prize.
Have any of you ever made a mistake trying to be frugal??
