These are just a couple suggestions if you are in the midst of a heat wave like we are here in Oklahoma.
Natural Fibers!- Use as many natural fibers as you can. Avoid the microfleece, microfiber, and synthetics as much as you can. Natural fibers breath easier and help increase air circulation for the bum. I prefer a bamboo or organic cotton.
Go Naked- Let the baby's bottom air out as much as possible. I have been letting my littlest just lay on a towel in the floor nakey. This is the ultimate "airing out". My son is a little bigger and crazier, so I will just let him run around in a fitted diaper without a cover. This is more breathable than with the cover and doesn't cause many issues if you just change him as soon as he is wet. You can also just snappi a prefold or flat on and let them go in that as well.
Wool- It may be counter intuitive, but wool is a super breathable cover. It lets air circulate and is very breathable. Wool is the ideal cover for anyone cloth diapering in the heat.
Light covers- Try using the lightest cover possible such as a Bummis Superlite.
If the baby does develop a rash use a cloth diaper safe cream and let them have as much naked time as possible. This should clear up the rash swiftly.
So get out there and enjoy the weather with you baby!
