**Note you can ALWAYS cloth diaper. Even in these circumstances cloth diapering can be done. These are just some times that a person MAY want to consider using disposables.
Here is a list of times that a disposable diaper option may be needed:
Travel- depending on the length of your trip you may or may not want to consider using a disposable diaper option. I prefer to use a disposable if I am going to be gone for more than 2 days because I prefer to not have to wash diapers while I am on vacation.
Illness- when I am not feeling well occasionally I will use a disposable option because I do not want to do laundry. It really just depends on my mood and how sick I am feeling. When I got Mastitis I felt so sick I didn't not even want to get out of bed except to nurse. Needless to say, I did not feel like doing laundry.
Yeast infections- if you baby gets a bad yeast infection and you are going to use Niacin or a prescription treatment you may want to use a disposable option as those creams are not cloth diaper safe. (Or for a natural approach that is cloth diaper safe consider using organic virgin coconut oil or grapeseed extract)
When the temporary babysitter refuses cloth (I say temporary because we know I wouldn't have a permanent babysitter who wouldn't use cloth) - Now I would personally reconsider using this person as my babysitter! However, if this was a last resort and you must have this particular anti-cloth babysitter for a brief moment in time you may want to consider a disposable diaper option for her.
It's just one of those days- We all have them and honestly no one can blame you. If you just don't feel like washing diapers and are wanting to use a disposable by all means do it. There have been times I have used all my diapers and know I should start a load of laundry and JUST CAN'T make myself do it. This is an opportune time to break out a 'sposie.
If you fall into one of these categories and want to use a disposable diaper I would strongly suggest one of the following disposable options!
Grovia Biosoakers- The biosoakers come in a 20-count and 50-count bag. ( I keep a pack of these on hand at all times just in case a situation like above were to arise. They are one size so there is no fear of having some left over that I didn't use before the baby grew out of them) A Biosoaker is easy to use. Just place it in any cloth diaper shell or cover. When it is soiled or wet simply dispose of it and place in a new one. This is a great option because it is biodegradable unlike the drug store disposables. It can be composted, tossed, or even flushed! The inside is made of sustainably harvested wood pulp fibers, containing a minimal amount of SAP gel. The super soft lining is certified natural, 100% Ingeo spun bound non-woven fabric. Ingeo™ Fibers are a renewable fiber, free of harsh synthetic chemicals and preservatives.
Flip Disposable Inserts- Flip Disposable Inserts are easy to use, dye free, fragrance free and Oeko-Tex certified. These can be used in a cloth diaper shell or cover. These can be composted or tossed.
Grovia BioDiaper- This is a traditional disposable diaper. No diaper cover or shell needed. You use it EXACTLY the same way as a Pampers or Huggies diaper. Difference? MANY! This diaper is biodegradable and compostable! It is made of 100% Ingeo spun bound non-woven fabric. Ingeo™ Fibers are a renewable fiber, free of harsh synthetic chemicals and preservatives. It contains minimal amounts of SAP gel and is made from sustainably harvested wood pulp fibers .
Any of these would be GREAT and healthy alternatives to traditional disposable diapers.
