Bye Bye Fluff Stash

So it is time to say goodbye to a big portion of my cloth diaper stash. ::tear:: As many of you know, I have been cloth diapering two babies for quite some time, so I have a lot of diapers. We are about to embark on a new cloth journey- potty training! I was also blessed with the opportunity to work from home full time. I will still get to be home with the kids, but I will also be able to make a little extra cash in the process (woohoo!). So I decided I wanted to simplify everything, this includes my cloth diapers.

I am selling about 3/4th of my diaper stash and replacing it with Kissaluvs pocket trainers and Thirsties Duo Diapers.  I am getting the training pants for our new potty training adventure and the Thirsties Duo Diapers for my sanity and ease.
I LOVE my prefolds and covers, but since I am going to be much busier now I decided to opt for the easiest diapering solution possible, which for me is Thirsties Duo Diapers. There are numerous reasons I love this diaper. First, it is a sleeve diaper. It has two openings on each end so it is super easy to stuff. It comes with an amazingly absorbent Thirsties Stay-Dry Duo Insert.  So this is like a super easy to stuff pocket diaper.

There has always been one thing that has kept me from being a "pocket diaper momma" and it is that the inserts must be removed before washing. I know you barely have to touch the insert to get it out, but I never was too keen on the idea. Therefore, I used prefolds and covers with no issues. With the Thirsties Duo Diapers you don't have to remove the inserts! The inserts are designed to come out in the wash on their own. This is a major selling point for me.

I am choosing to use the Kissaluvs Pocket Trainers for a couple reasons. First, you can customize absorbency which will be very important for naps and nighttime. I like that there is a pocket that I can stuff with as much absorbency as I need. Also the diapers are super cute. They come with bicycle and dinosaur printed interiors. I know my little guy will love looking at the prints. They are also really easy to customize to fit. You can adjust both the legs and waist.

So wish me luck on my latest cloth diaper adventure! I will keep you posted on our progress.

Touching Poo

I think all cloth diapering mothers have heard as some point or another, "Don't you get sick of touching all that poo?".

This is the face of a mom sick of "touching all that poo!"

It is a scenario that is all to familiar for me. I enter a public establishment and take my fluffy bum baby into the restroom to change his diaper. A oblivious and hopefully well-meaning mom approaches and asks, "Are those cloth diapers?". I respond, "Yes they are." The reply can be one of two things. The first (and my favorite), "Wow! Those look really neat." Then I can give a tiny tidbit of info and back off. Now the second response goes like this, "Oh. Don't you get sick of 'insert any various negative statement about cloth'".

My absolute favorite "negative" that these mothers give is "Don't you hate touching all that poo!". I think I most likely give a complete look of disbelief and then usually just say "I bet I touch far less poo than you do!". That makes a great rhythm!

You touch poo.
I touch poo.
But I bet I touch less poo
than you do!

Cue images of two children (aka mothers) fighting on the playground over a silly toy.

As you can see, this is not my response. I do not start the "argument" over who is right and who is wrong. I honestly just feel bad for those mothers not having had the opportunity to experience the freedom (Yes I went there!) that cloth has to offer. I am not a slave to laundry and poo. I rarely touch poo and when I do it is honestly because I don't want to take the time to rinse my diaper off properly.

When my first was in disposables poo was my middle name. It was constantly on the bed sheets, on her clothes, and even in her hair!! I can say that since I have been cloth diapering I have not had a single case of "up-the-back" poo. This is a big relief to any parent that has dealt with the dreaded UTB poo. It is the worst!!

So try not to hold it against the well-meaning bathroom mother. She means no harm. Just know, you are awesome and you are saving yourself some money, some garbage, and keeping your baby's bottom happy.

(love my awesome poem- check out my other poetic cloth works here)
