Back to School Fashionista with #jcpback2school

My four year old, Bella, has always been interested in fashion. When she was only one she would go to her closet and try to pick out her own clothes. Once she started talking, my days of picking out clothes for her were over! So now that school is starting the question has risen, "What to do about clothes?" Do you let the little fashionista pick her own outfits, or do I kindly direct her to the cute little outfits I love?

Fortunately for me she has pretty good taste, so I don't foresee too many instances of having to "redirect" her. She loves mixing and matching colors and sometimes even styles.  I love the picture below because she picked a girly outfit, but put the baseball hat with it since she was "playing ball".

A sample of her early wardrobe work!

As she gets older her styles is constantly changing. She loves jewelry and shoes now (what girl doesn't), and will pair boots with almost any outfit! She also loves LOUD colors. The brighter the better. Like most little girls she also always tries to incorporate her current childhood obsession which is currently TinkerBell. She has Tinkerbell flip-flops, rings, necklaces, backpacks, and t-shirts. You will usually see a peek of TinkerBell somewhere in her wardrobe.

Note the TinkerBell necklace and "hippie-esque" choice of headband.

She is also always interested in what my husband or I are wearing. She will comment on my outfits and tell me if I need "something" else. When she makes a comment that she likes your wardrobe you know it looks good. Since she loves my clothes, she also loves wearing them! Dress up is a constant in our household.

Did I mention she likes accessories?

Sometimes "dress up" leaks into her regular wardrobe as well! Mommy and daddy's accessories become hers!

 Daddy's tie completes this ensemble!

Obviously, there are times when I will give her my opinion on her clothing choices and kindly direct her to something "more appropriate" for where we are going. I don't want to squash her individuality completely so she always gets to pick something for her outfit. For example, if we are going to a nice dinner or to a formal event, I get to pick the dress, but she can pick a hair accessory to wear. This makes both of us happy!

I suppose school will be no different. With pre-k just around the corner I have no doubt she will stand out among the rest.
