Why I am glad we have the FDA!

So I was recently thinking how great it is that we have an entire organization in this country dedicated to the protection of our food. I wanted to recap some of the great things that they have been doing for our country over the years.

Things the FDA has saved us from:
  1. Homeopathy Cures for H1N1 Flu- Obviously since the FDA has not been able to substantiate claims that natural herbal remedies can "cure" anything the selling of any such product can be HIGHLY detrimental to our society.
  2. Homeopathy Cures for any purpose- How dare a company claim that Licorice root can be used to treat colds! That is absurd! We don't want families overdosing on Licorice!
  3. Stop Green Tea!- Stating that Green Tea or any tea for that matter can have properties that can help lower cholesterol or possibly help prevent cancer is just plain crazy. I mean how would Mother Nature know how to produce cures for these ailments. That has to be done in a lab!
  4. Aloe the silent killer- This company should be shut down immediately for claiming that Aloe contains antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties.
  5. Garlic does it again-  This is one of NUMEROUS warnings filed to companies selling garlic as a cold remedy. They also have an issue trying to sell parsley, Cayenne pepper, and Bilberry as well.
Things the FDA thinks are ok:
  1. Rat Poisoning our drinking water and toothpaste: The bottle on the toothpaste claims that fluoride is an anti-cavity fighter so that would make it a drug under their definition correct?  But did you know that dental fluorosis is a major dental issue and comes from too much Fluoride? Not to mention Fluoride is a RAT AND ROACH poison. There is enough Fluoride in a bottle of toothpaste to kill two small children. THANKS FDA!
  2. Baby Orajel-  Baby Orajel contains Benzocaine. Benzocaine products can cause a serious life-threatening condition known as methemoglobinemia. Methemoglobinemia (MET-hemoglobin) is a condition where there is a build-up of methemoglobin in the blood, which reduces the ability of the blood to transport oxygen throughout the body. Ultimately your baby could turn blue and potentially die! These symptoms can appear rapidly after benzocaine use, occurring within minutes or up to two hours after use. If left untreated, seizures, coma and death could occur. So there is no need for a recall of this product just so long as parents are away that after using it their baby could turn blue and die. I mean that is their decision to make right? And everyone should have a television or computer to be able to read the warning.
  3. Pesticides in baby food-  Are pesticides detectable in baby food? YES! Multiple pesticides were found in all fruits and two of the vegetables tested. Two pesticides were found in one third of the peach and applesauce samples. Forty four percent of green bean samples contained two or more pesticides and one green bean sample had three pesticides.
  4. Genetically Engineered Crops are great!- A number of studies over the past decade have revealed that genetically engineered foods can pose serious risks to humans, domesticated animals, wildlife and the environment. Human health effects can include higher risks of toxicity, allergenicity, antibiotic resistance, immune-suppression and cancer.
  5. No need to regulate to stop foodborne illness-  The FDA does very little about possible  E. Coli contamination of our food. The recalls typically happen MONTHS after the food has hit store shelves. I don't know about you, but typically I eat my hamburger meet the same week I purchase it. Recalls are all smoke and mirrors. They recall the product to make you "feel" like they are doing something productive. Chances are that food has already been consumed. But who cares, it isn't as if people die from E. Coli.
  6. BPA in soup-  The nonprofit Consumers Union found it in 18 of 19 canned foods it tested: Progresso Vegetable Soup topped the list with 22 micrograms of BPA per serving—116 times Consumers Union’s recommended daily limit, which is based on animal studies.
Now don't you just want to go take a big bite of that genetically modified, pesticide containing toxic apple in your kitchen?

So a big THANK YOU to the FDA for all that you do!
